Senior living has made great strides in providing helpful information, but when it comes to storytelling, there is still room for improvement. In this Senior Living Minute, Dan Hutson explains why the industry needs more authentic, compelling, and courageous narratives—stories that truly capture the real experiences of residents and staff.

Transcript: Senior Living Needs Better—And Braver—Storytellers

Think about any engrossing magazine feature you have read—now compare that to senior living storytelling.

The reality is, we are not great at telling compelling, entertaining stories. While the industry has improved in providing helpful information, we still fall short in crafting authentic narratives that truly capture senior living life and its people.

  • Authentic stories are not always 100% positive—and that is okay.
  • Communities need to be brave enough to share real resident experiences.
  • Compelling storytelling goes beyond polished marketing—it creates connection.

Too often, we smooth out the rough spots in our stories to fit a sales and marketing narrative. But the most powerful stories are those that show real-life challenges and triumphs. Even when aspects of a story are imperfect, the overall message remains—senior living is still an amazing, transformative experience.

It is time to embrace fearless storytelling and share the real stories that inspire and engage.
