The senior living sales process has long been transactional, but today’s consumers—especially boomers and millennials—expect a more emotional, human-centered approach.
In this Senior Living Minute, Emily Tucker explains why understanding a prospect’s emotions—guilt, exhaustion, and information overload—must be the foundation of the sales process. Instead of relying on generic messaging or conflicting industry articles, sales teams should go straight to the source by engaging in real conversations with prospects.
As baby boomers—and soon millennials—enter the senior living buying journey, their emotions have not always been a key focus of the sales process. Historically, senior living has been presented in a transactional way, but it is time to shift our approach and address the emotional challenges prospects face.
Prospects are dealing with guilt, exhaustion, and information overload. With so much information available, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and conflicted. Half of the articles they read will tell them one thing, and half will say the opposite. Instead of relying on industry assumptions, we must go directly to the source—the actual prospects—and ask:
“What do you need from us to better understand senior living?”
By listening first and leading with empathy, we can create a sales process that truly supports families in making one of the most important decisions of their lives.
