In this episode of Senior Living Minute, Dan Hutson discusses why senior living must prioritize the resident experience above all else. While the industry invests heavily in land, construction, and design, experiential programming is often overlooked. Hutson challenges communities to rethink their approach—budgeting for experiences that align with customer desires and set them apart from the competition. Discover why crafting a meaningful, engaging experience is the key to success in the future of senior living.
The growing number of older adults presents senior living with both incredible opportunities and significant challenges in the decades ahead. However, what we rarely hear about is the experience. I would argue that everything else is secondary if we are not creating and delivering an experience that aligns with customers’ core needs and desires.
We need to offer a differentiated experience—one that not only aligns with customer expectations but also distinguishes itself from the competition. We invest millions in land acquisition, construction, interior design, and high-end finishes, yet we often neglect programming and experiential spending.
We need to shift our thinking and treat experience design with the same importance as physical infrastructure. How do we create a carefully curated experience that truly delights people and aligns with their real desires? This is the question we must answer to shape the future of senior living.
