Empathy starts at the top—and it’s key to a thriving senior living culture.
In this Senior Living Minute, Jessi Weldon explains why leadership needs to immerse themselves in the day-to-day reality of caregivers, community leaders, and frontline staff. True understanding comes from experience, not assumptions.
Discover how asking questions, observing, and actively listening can create a culture of empathy in senior living.
When we talk about building empathy and support in our senior living communities, it has to start with the leadership team.
Typically, it’s the home office individuals making decisions. But unless they take the time to observe, ask questions, and truly immerse themselves in the work, they can’t fully understand what caregivers and community leaders go through daily.
There’s a massive gap between what works in theory and what works in practice. You can have the best policies and initiatives, but if they don’t align with real-world challenges, they won’t succeed.
The best way to foster empathy is to be on-site, engage in conversations with every level of the organization, and use that insight to drive better decision-making.
