Transcript: Music Can Be a Powerful Tool in Memory Care

Music is a huge piece of the puzzle when it comes to helping our residents thrive in senior living communities.

It allows us to connect with residents in profound ways—especially those who are nonverbal. When they hear a familiar song, it can transport them back in time. It might be the song they once danced to with a significant other, a tune their mother sang to them, or a melody they sang to their own child.

Music has the ability to stir emotions, evoke memories, and create moments of joy. It’s incredible to watch a resident suddenly start dancing, tapping their foot, or humming along—all because of the deep connection they have to a song.

Beyond nostalgia, music can also calm someone, energize them, or simply bring comfort. It’s a powerful and timeless tool in memory care, and while technology will continue to bring new advancements, music’s ability to touch lives will never fade.
