Senior care providers should work together—not against each other.
In this Senior Living Minute, Kacie Pritt challenges the competitive mindset in post-acute care and advocates for a more collaborative approach.
Learn why partnering with other providers can improve care and outcomes for seniors.
There is a misconception between collaboration and competitiveness in senior care. For so long, the mindset has been, ‘We want the patients, we need the patients, so we can’t help our competitors.’ But the reality is, there are far more people in need of care than any single provider can serve.
I have developed a strong network of people who are technically our competitors, but I recognize that they may be able to treat conditions we cannot. Or, if our building is full, I want to have trusted relationships with other providers so I can confidently refer those patients elsewhere.
Beyond direct competitors, it’s also important to partner with other care providers in the industry—home health agencies, hospice providers, and different levels of care. The key is finding those who see your value and treating them as a resource, just as they see you as one.
By cultivating these relationships, we can shift our mindset from competition to collaboration, ensuring that more people receive the right care in the right place at the right time.
