Transcript: Technology Has Allowed Seniors to Live at Home Longer

The biggest change in senior living has been the rise of technologies that make aging in place easier.

One of the main reasons we moved into a senior living community was that if I were to pass away, I wanted my wife to have an active social life. At the time, moving to a senior living campus seemed like the best way to achieve that. However, since then, senior centers have evolved, offering new ways to find social engagement—making that factor less pressing.

Another major concern was transportation. My wife, who had grown up using public transportation, was never fully comfortable driving. Back then, senior living offered transportation services, which was a significant benefit. While they still do, the introduction of Uber and Lyft has made alternative transportation much more accessible.

Today, technology has made aging in place more viable and comfortable than it was just 17 years ago in 2006. As these innovations continue to evolve, they will further shape the future of senior living and how people make their decisions.
