In this Senior Living Minute, Lori Alford reflects on how a life-altering health event reshaped her views on success. By embracing work-life integration and setting healthier boundaries, she became a stronger leader and better role model. Hear how prioritizing well-being can lead to greater performance, sharper decision-making, and more sustainable leadership.
I believe that you should have work-life integration. Every Type A personality wants to keep going in success and just keep climbing for what’s next. You want more. And I really thrived in that environment. But when I had my aneurysm, I had to realize I want to be around for a lot longer. And through that, I need to take care of myself.
And so it was setting boundaries from work and my personal life, and being okay with me not being on until eight o’clock at night. It’s not a healthy lifestyle and, more importantly, it’s not the role model that I wanted to be for my daughter and my son.
So, I’ve had to make a lot of changes in my own life to show up as the best version. And guess what? I still accomplish a lot throughout my day. My decision-making is probably better today than it was back then.
And now, because of the lifestyle I lead, my brain is performing better than, truthfully, I think it was pre-my aneurysm.
